View Latest JukeBox Activity

We've added an option that shows the latest activity at the F-Jam Online Studios Finished Tracks Jukebox. You'll find this under "Jukebox", then "View Latest Jukebox Activity" on the Main Menu above here. This will keep track of any new additions to the jukebox (wether newly completed, or from the archives). This will also show any new comments made under any existing song. There is also a link on that page to signup and subscribe to this via e-mail (meaning it'll come to your e-mail when something new is posted).

E-Mail notifications

Hey I just stumbled onto a FREE SERVICE that sends you e-mail notification from this (or any newsfeed). What it does is effectively lets you watch this blog, or any particular topic via e-mail. Once you set it up it starts sending you notifications when something new is posted. If this works like I think it does, this could be a major breakthrough on the subject of e-mail notifications. You'd no longer need to use a newsfeed reader to know when something new is posted because your e-mail will be reading it and keeping you notified... And it's free. I signed up for it and I'm trying it out now with this post:

MIDI drum kit talk

You remember when I said i Didn't care for midi kits well..............it is nearly christmas and I couldn't resist the temptation Doh!!!!
Its the Alesis DM5 brain with drum skin pads.I'm not that keen on the Hihat but I can always put in real cymbals.

Well I did the same thing, out of curiosity. There is nothing that will ever compete with or replace miced acoustic drums, for performance, and soune (if you know what you're soing). But these midi kits, are pretty convenient and cool in their own right. There is something to be said for them, this is true, but we keep things in perspective. Going one further I think it's smart as well to learn to program drums too. You learn a heck of a lot about editing audio, and what you learn can be applied to real drum tracks... I'll never give up the acoustics and playing them onstage if I can, but it's good to know about and have the midi drum kits, and do a bit of programming as well. Keeping your hand in all areas a bit.

I've learned so much about editing, mixing, mastering, arrangement, and music theory in general because I've not done acoustic drums only.

I want to get discussions going on all of these aspects... So we can indeed pick each other's brains...

Browsing projects

Probably the easiest way to browse the projects on one page would be doing it via the googlegroups. http://groups.google.com/group/F-Jam/web Shows them all on one page, and each should show the status of the projects. A close second to this would be http://fjamstudios.blogspot.com, but this is not all on one page. It shows 10 per page and when you get to the bottom you have to click the "older posts" button and go to the next page of 10.

You always have the "search options too, but you have to have some idea what you are looking for to do them. What I'm talking about in the above message is if you are just browsing....

Smilies

We've added "Smilies" to the menu here. You can add them to your posts, just by dragging them into the message editor, (if you have it in "compose mode"). It works that way using a PC. Not sure if it works like that with the other platforms. The smilies windo opwns in a new window, and you just grab what you want to add to the message and drag and drop and it should look something like this:

I'll add the rest of them to that page as I get time. There is a lot in that directory.... It adds a lot of life to the messages to have this option....

Filename rule for File Manager

When naming files to upload using the file manager, use only alpha-numerics, with no spaces. If you want to separate woeds in your filenames, use an underscore. If you don't follow this your files may not be downloadable from the file manager. It has to do with the php module that we are using for this. If you do as laid out above they will always work, and will be linkable.
