Project Status Update FLASH Tutorial

I've posted a FLASH tutorial, to show you how to update your project status, so that when users browse the status pages, they see updated status and recent mix files. it's easier that you might thing to do this. Also I've turned the ability to post messages (updates) back on for the members, so everyone is able to post, but I am moderating the posts so only the messages that are for status updates will go through. This effectively returns the status update system to active status, but now with a filter so only appropriate message go out.

HAVE YOUR SOUND TURNED LOW THEN CLICK THIS AND WATCH!

Hey Fred
Well done on the tutorials. I'm sure they will a lot of help to guys wishing to get started. I have sent a link over to a singer friend in France who would like to get involved but is not 100% up to speed in computers.MULAB and a bit of help should get things moving without worrying about the more complex cubase or sonar.....most projects dont need the bigger software at least until final mix (if then)

Thanks Ian, that;s the idea, behind the tutorials. Maybe your friend will come and join us here. We could surely use more vocalists!

The free version is limited to 8 tracks, but has full VST plugin support, which I plan to cover in the tutorials. I am planning tutorials, for sonar, soundforge, winamp, band in a box, and acid pro too, as well as several other blog related topics. It does help to see things clicked on the screen as it's explained huh? I wish someone would do something like this for me for cubase, and reason. It's amazing how well this little flash screen capture works...

Cheers!

Oh I should mention that I'm putting the files for these tutorials on the tutorials page in compressed form (RAR), so a person can download them and play them from their own hard drives without having to wait for it to buffer. Sometimes when the server is busy the buffering can get quite bad.

On that topic, if you let it buffer the whole thing and then play it it plays nicely. You can pause it once it starts to play, and let the whole thing buffer and then play it and it'll play without stopping. If the playback catches the buffering it'll stop and buffer.

This does not work for me , it loads but will not start. Some other tutorials are working, but this one isnt

Jill-

I tried this on my wife's laptop, using a wireless router, and it worked very well. No problems at all. Ian posted the first comment on this thread, and he says it worked for him. I can only guess why it doesn't work for you.

I do have the files compressed so you can download them and play them from your own hard drive. You can find and download them and try this on the tutorials page at

Those are compressed using the RAR format of compression. You need to find a program that will uncompress RAR files. Once you have that try uncompressing them. It should run from your hard drive then.

All the other tutorials play ok in my browser except this one which won't start, must be something different about this one ?

Keeper said...

They are all made the same way, and with the same program. How could it be different? Like I said it plays fine from my wife's wireless laptop...

This one played for you right Ian?

Stonehead said...

Hey Guys
Yes this plays fine for me, I just checked it again.
The only thing I can think might be happening is that it takes a while to start while it downloads into the buffer so try waiting a while and it may go ok.

Keeper said...

Right Ian, you gotta let it buffer. If the play catches up to the buffer it'll stop while it buffers a bit more. What I've seen is if you get all the way through it the first time you can start it again and it should play the second time without any buffering.

It'll already be there in your buffer.

Just thought that might be what Jill is experiencing.....cant think what else it would be

Well some of these things take a little getting used to.

Marc had a problem with uploading a wav, and it just amounted to not waiting long enough. The browser indicator goes to 100 % and it keeps going, so it was a bit confusing to him. Once I told him to just be patient, and let it continue past the 100% indicator, he sent it with no problems.

So it just takes a little experience, and patience.

All of these flash tutorials are made the exact say way so they should act the same...

That's a good suggestion Ian.

DirgeK's mum said...

yes, it has started playing when I waited 5 mins, I was just too impatient !

No worries darlin...

Now you know. The data has a long way to come to the UK. LOL

If it palys choppy the first time through, let it go to 100% or the end and then play it again from the beginning and see if it doesn't play better the second time around because all of the buffering is done Jill.

Good for you! You asked and were persisitent, and didn't give up and now you got a resolution to the problem...

People that give up don't help themselves huh?

Cool!
