While playing at a local music festival with my gigging band Fenrir, I was invited to join a locally based music community web site. The site has been set up to advertise gigs and to get local musicians talking to each other but I have to say it's quite neat.
Each member is permitted to upload 100 tracks so I have posted a load of my old stuff, some ex-band material and some of my F-jam collaborations.
My personal page is totally customisable as you will see if you visit HERE
I was sure the organiser was not programming it himself and I have found by looking at the source code that the network is supplied and run by http://www.ning.com/
There may be some useful stuff here Fred...see what you think.

I actually already have a nin.com account. I was considering it for F-Jam for a short time. I decided against it because of the amount of advertizing they use. It was just before I decided to use the present forum. We have almost zero advertizement in our present system. NING.com is pretty cool though. I found other free services to be better though.
I do have to admit that you don't seem to have any ads in the playlist you embeded in your post here though. That in itself is a good thing.
They do have a google bar on each page but I guess all free stuff comes at a price LOL

Right well the cost of some things is more than others. Our forum is a free service and it has little or not advertizing. I have one little ad for our forum sponsors on out Home/News page, that I chose to leave there for them. I could have eliminated all ads with out current sponsors. Ad free forum with e-mail notification support. The only thing better is this blog which I never have to worry about overdoing it with the e-mail (google).
Still the ability for you to embed a player, and upload 100 tracks means it is noteworthy, and people should have a look see...
You might want to post this in the "Interesting sites' forum, for those members who ignore the blogs...
We have some who only use the forums and some like Parry who only use the blog system. And too we do have some like us who do both....
Ok Fred will do... I know what you mean.
http://fjamstudios.ning.com/ is the page I've had for quite some time Ian. I never used it because what we are doing already is much more impressive than this ning.com thing..
I wasn't aware of the 100 song and streaming player thing. Where does one find that on the ning.com?
I think 100 tracks is pretty amazing. A site I belong to called Indie Guild is hosted by ning.com. Then before I knew it I got a mails from other music sites that come under the ning umbrella, asking me to join. It's all pretty cool. There can be a whole group of sites that spring out of your original ning page. Sometimes you dont even have to fill in another profile cos it'll import your original profile.
oops for got to mention. Fred, if you click on "My Page" on the left hand side of the screen and scroll down you should see an "Add Music" link. You can then add songs and it goes quite into depth. You can put your own genres in, there's no huge list to pick from.

Yeah I Pete here is actually responsible for my joining the Indie Guild, and ning.com awhile back. Thanks Pete. I don't get much communication from them myself, but I guess that's understandable since I am up to my hips in F-Jam...
I still haven't been able to find anyplace at ning.com for upload mp3s at all, much less 100 tracks. They've done a good job of hiding that.....

Ok I'll have a look see Pete... I'm blind sometimes..... LOL Thanks man!
Yae
I have been browsing through some of the networks they host.....quite a range and some are very interesting....many have a membership of one LOL
If it were not for the ads everywhere I probably would have chosen ning.com for the new F-Jam. I have not regretted my choice. It is very hard to beat what we have in place.
The only thing I need to do is streamline the setup on new projects. But once the setup is done it pretty much runs itself. So in that respect it is mission accomplished...
I am thinking about a few templates I can use for new setup. Doing that would speed things up. I just have so many things going at once, it is hard to stay organized... I need a secretary...
I still have a bunch of songs to put into the radio, and random.
My list keeps growing, but I think I am at least keeping the important things covered?
BTW: Vacation trip has been derailed by ear infection. I can't very well swim in the lake with ear trouble, so we are home for now. New prescriptions on the way, so maybe we can salvage a few days worth of this trip.
Everything works a treat here Fred and the lack of adverts is a real plus.
Sorry to hear about the ear infection hope it clears up quickly....you have had those headphones on too long haven't ya.......
